Help with Automating Lights and Heating Based on Presence Detection

Hi everyone,

I’m relatively new to Futurehome and would love some advice on setting up an automation system for my home. My goal is to make my lights and heating system smarter, specifically by using presence detection to adjust them automatically.

Here’s my setup so far:

  • I have several smart lights (mostly Zigbee) in the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms.
  • My heating system is connected to smart thermostats compatible with Futurehome.
  • I use a couple of motion sensors and door/window sensors around the house.
  • My smartphone acts as a geofence trigger for presence detection.

What I’d like to achieve:

  1. When someone enters a room, the lights should turn on and stay on as long as there’s activity. If no activity is detected for a while, they should turn off.
  2. Heating should adjust based on whether someone is home. For example:
  • Lower the temperature when everyone leaves.
  • Gradually heat the house when someone is on their way back (based on geofencing).
  1. Ideally, the system should be smart enough to avoid turning lights or heating on unnecessarily, like when a pet triggers the motion sensor or a door is briefly opened.

I’ve explored some scenes and automations within the Futurehome app, but I’m unsure how to best combine these triggers for seamless functionality. Do I need additional devices or integrations to fine-tune the system?

I also checked this: https://forum.futurehome.io/t/automasjon-basert-pa-median-av-strompris/alteryx

If anyone has set up a similar system, I’d greatly appreciate tips, example automations, or recommended configurations. I’m also open to exploring third-party integrations if they enhance the system.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The first item is relatively easy in thingsplex - you’ll find a couple ways of doing it in the forumet if you search for bevegelse.

Futurehome doesn’t do geofencing.

You could build a flow in thingsplex if you have door sensors to set the amount of time doors can be open before a heater reacts.

The sensors can’t determine what’s moving, so it will see movement as movement whether it’s a person or animal. You might be able to find a zwave sensor you can turn down the sensitivity on, but I doubt you’ll achieve the result you’re looking for.
